Astronomy and Astrophotography by Michael Booth. I live in the south of Tasmania and in the breaks between the cloudy days and nights I like to get outside and enjoy observing and photographing the night sky.

Image of the Seagull Nebula IC2177 5th April 2013
We had some fun at our last community viewing night discovering this lesser known nebula that lies some 3700 light years out towards the rim of the Milky Way in Canis Major.
The image was taken with a modified Canon 350D, ED80 Refractor, EQ6 mount and auto-guided with a Meade DSI Pro II also with an ED80 using PHD.
I recorded the nights viewing on this time-lapse on which I made these light swirls during some of the 30 second exposures
